BADGER METER INTRODUCES ECONOMICAL BTU ENERGY TRANSMITTER FOR SUBMETERING APPLICATIONS

New 340 BN/MB Btu Energy Transmitter offers reliable measurement and flexibility in the field

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Badger Meter (BMI), a leading innovator and manufacturer of flow measurement solutions, has launched the Data Industrial® 340 BN/MB Btu Energy Transmitter for submetering applications that use BACnet® or Modbus communications protocols. The 340 BN/MB Btu Energy Transmitter combines the benefits of three previous models – the 340, 340BN and the 340MB – into one economical and compact unit to provide precise thermal measurement for HVAC, building and facilities management, irrigation and process applications.

“By including the standard pulse version, Modbus version and BACnet version within a single unit, our 340 BN/MB Btu Energy Transmitter provides greater flexibility in the field and simplified ordering,” explains Rob Fehl, product marketing manager, Badger Meter.

The Badger Meter 340 BN/MB Btu Energy Transmitter measures thermal energy by integrating the liquid flow rate in a closed pipe system and the differential temperature between the supply and return. Using the signal from a flow sensor installed in a hydronic heating or chilled water system, along with the signals from 10k ohm temperature thermistors, 100 ohm RTDs or 1000 ohm RTDs installed in the inlet and outlet points, it calculates thermal energy. The flow input may be provided by any Badger Meter sensor and many other pulse or sine wave signal flow sensors.

An onboard microcontroller and digital circuitry on the 340 BN/MB Btu Energy Transmitter produce precise measurements and accurate, drift-free outputs. Real-time flow rate, flow total, temperatures, energy rate and energy total can be accessed when the unit is connected to a PC or laptop computer. In addition, the 340 BN/MB Btu Energy Transmitter features three LEDs to verify flow sensor activity, network link and the pulse output.

This Btu energy transmitter is programmed using Badger Meter Windows®-based software. Calibration information for the flow sensor type, pipe size, communication protocol settings, and output scaling may be preselected or entered by the user in the field.

With a compact footprint that measures 3.65 inches by 2.95 inches, the Badger Meter 340 BN/MB Btu Energy Transmitter can be mounted easily on panels, DIN rails or enclosures. Options include a metal or plastic enclosure and DIN rail mounting clips. It operates on AC or DC power ranging from 12 to 24 volts and generates a minimal amount of heat. For additional details and specifications, see the Badger Meter 340 BN/MB Btu Energy Transmitter page.
