Alliances / Multi-Utility Solutions
Badger Meter has developed close multi-utility alliances with industry leaders in electric meter fixed network AMR technology in the areas of Power Line Carrier, Broadband Over Power Lines, Cellular or Hybrid RF Technology. Our alliance with these network leaders allows ORION® water or gas transmitters to easily migrate from a mobile AMR system into any of these electric utility network solutions, with no changes or reprogramming of the transmitters already installed in the field.

The Aclara TWACS® system is a fixed network utility communication system that uses patented technologies to communicate over electric power lines or via short hop radio frequency (RF), providing low-cost, highly-reliable, two-way communication between the utility and the consumers of electricity, gas, propane and pit-set meters. The Aclara TWACS system uses the existing power lines for data transmission, and since it modulates the waveform at the zero crossing point, it uses the utility’s network at the frequency for which it was designed. No additional equipment such as boosters or repeaters are required.
The Aclara TWACS system solution is based on over 26 years of development, testing and utility usage. Aclara TWACS technology is a state-of-the-art, proven reliable, multi-functional, power line and radio frequency communication system with full two-way access to and from the meter.
- Aclara TWACS technology cost-effectively provides unique capabilities ideally suited for AMR,
- Load Control, Demand Response, Interval Data, TOU/Critical Peak Pricing Prepay
- Metering -- and Outage Assessment, Remote Service Disconnect/Connect, and
- Tamper/Theft Detection using open architecture interfaces.

Landys + Gyr provides a flexible, scalable and modular solution that uses innovative ultra-narrow-bandwidth (UNB) technology to deliver your data using existing power line infrastructure. Landys + Gyr's UNB technology takes advantage of a little-used segment of the very low frequency spectrum band to accurately and reliably transfer data from distant electric, water, and gas meters directly to your office. Because of the very low frequencies used, the Landys + Gyr system does not require any modifications or additions to your distribution system to transmit the data.
Their innovative system actually stores your latest valuable data at each endpoint, which can be retrieved without loss in the event of a communication failure, even allowing for accurate time-of-use billing applications. Landys + Gyr is widely recognized for its commitment to the utility industries, and they offer more compatible meter endpoints than any other AMR provider in the world.

Badger Meter, Inc. and Tantalus Systems Corporation’s technology partnership enables utilities to implement a wireless two-way, real-time communications network that automates meter reading as well as enables them to remotely manage other water, gas, or electric equipment in a distribution network. The result is a single, consolidated communications system that meets the specific data and operational needs of each utility type, provides a secure communications infrastructure to protect and deliver data, and serves as the basis for outage management, demand response, load shedding and other progressive smart metering initiatives.
Tantalus’ transceivers receive meter data from Badger’s ORION® water and gas metering products, allowing them to transmit their data over TUNet® (the Tantalus Utility Network) back to a common network server or other host computer. This creates a practical, cost-effective system for utilities that manage multiple services or want to partner with other utilities in their service area in order to operate a common communications infrastructure. Essential consumption and operational data will be automatically channeled directly to appropriate functions within each respective utility for integration into billing, customer service, operations, or other relevant applications.

Tropos® Networks is the market leader in delivering metro-scale Wi-Fi mesh network systems. Our systems have been selected to unwire more major league cities than all competitors combined.
Tropos develops technology based on what their customers want and need. With more than 500 deployments worldwide, they've gotten to know pretty well what those wants and needs are. Metro-scale Wi-Fi is different than enterprise wireless, which is different than wireline networking. Huge differences. That's why they've developed a system, from the ground up, that's purpose-built for this environment.
