OASys
The Badger® Opportunity Analysis System (OASys) is a tool developed by Badger Meter to allow water utilities to understand the economic benefits of upgrading to new water meters with automatic meter reading (AMR) capabilities.
OASys looks at economic benefits from three potential sources:
1. Increased Revenue Due To Improved Meter Accuracy
As water meters age they will slowly lose accuracy, which means that they undercount the water consumed. Eventually, this degradation reaches a point where replacing the meters will significantly increase the utility’s revenue.
2. Savings In Meter Reading Costs Due To AMR
OASys captures the costs of meter reading, and illustrates the benefits possible with AMR.
Utilities considering AMR should keep in mind that there are many other benefits that are harder to quantify, but no less important, such as:
- Improved customer service
- Safer working environment for utility employees, leading to
- Reduced costs of insurance claims
- Enhanced features such as leak detection
- Faster billing cycles and improved cash flow
- Reallocation of employee resources to other priorities
3. Savings In Meter Repair Costs
With all-new meters, the need for repairs will be limited to those due to issues such as weather damage or vandalism.
