BEACON® AMA Mobile and Traditional Fixed Network Solutions Released for Sale

 

Badger Meter is pleased to announce the release for sale of two new BEACON Advanced Metering Analytics (AMA) solutions:

BEACON AMA is now the single platform for Badger Meter’s Mobile, Traditional Fixed Network and Managed Solutions.

 

 

 

BEACON AMA Mobile Solution

 

Vehicle/Drive-by Software

The BEACON AMA Mobile Solution provides utilities with an end-to-end mobile reading solution for vehicle/drive-by meter reading, consisting of the following:

  • BEACON AMA software – cloud-based head-end application for account management, reporting, field assignment generation, and hosting of utility’s metering data
  • BEACON AMA Field Application Suite:
    • BEACON AMA Field Director – cloud-based field assignment management software
    • ORION® Mobile Read – client-based meter reading software
    • ORION Endpoint Utility – client-based endpoint troubleshooting software

Software updates and support are included in the monthly hosting and annual software licensing fees, ensuring the utility is utilizing the most up-to-date software at all times. Meter reading field assignments and reading data are synchronized between the applications via a wireless or wired network connection, eliminating the need for the meter reader to come into the utility to receive new field assignments or to transfer meter reading data.

Vehicle/Drive-by Hardware

The following hardware is required the new software systems: 

 

ORION Mobile Read Meter Reading Software:

  • Badger Meter supplied Panasonic® Toughpad tablet or customer supplied Windows®-based tablet or laptop meeting minimum system specifications
  • ORION ME mobile transceiver or CE mobile receiver kit

ORION Endpoint Utility Programming / Quick Read / Troubleshooting Software:

  • ORION ME mobile transceiver or CE mobile receiver kit
  • USB IR communication cable

Handheld/Walk-by Software

The BEACON AMA Mobile Solution for walk-by meter reading looks much like it does today, however, field assignments and metering data communicate between the BEACON AMA software and the Trimble® Ranger handheld via wired or wireless network connection using a data synchronization process rather than manually via load/unload using a USB flash drive.

  • BEACON AMA software – cloud-based head end application for account management, reporting, field assignment generation, and hosting of utility’s metering data
  • BEACON AMA Field Application Suite 4.3.0:
    • ORION Field Application 4.3.0 – BEACON compatible meter reading software
    • ORION Endpoint Utility 2.6.2 – troubleshooting software

All new Trimble Ranger handhelds shipped on or after 12/1/15 will have the 4.3.0 Suite installed. Utilities with existing handhelds under an active service agreement will receive a no-charge handheld software update when deploying a BEACON AMA Managed Solution.

 

Handheld/Walk-by Hardware

The BEACON AMA Mobile Solution supports the use of the current Ranger 3 handheld as well as Ranger X handhelds for meter reading and troubleshooting. Use of an external mobile transceiver or mobile receiver kit with the handheld is not supported. Utilities wishing to use a mobile transceiver or receiver kit will need to use the vehicle/drive-by hardware and software offering.

BEACON AMA Traditional Fixed Network Solution

 

In addition to the Managed Solution and Mobile Solution deployments, Badger Meter is happy to announce the BEACON AMA software suite also supports traditional utility-owned ORION Fixed Network (SE) and GALAXY Fixed Network deployments as part of a hosted BEACON AMA fixed network solution.

 

Traditional Fixed Network Software

The BEACON AMA Traditional Fixed Network Solution provides utilities with an end-to-end  solution for fixed network data collection consisting of the following:

  • BEACON AMA software – cloud-based head-end application for account management, reporting, field assignment generation, and hosting of utility’s metering data
  • EyeOnWater® Consumer Engagement Tools (optional annual subscription)

Traditional Fixed Network Hardware

The BEACON AMA Traditional Fixed Network Solution supports deployment of utility-owned system infrastructure and consists of the following:

  • Fixed Network Gateway Transceivers/Receivers
  • Quarterly Cellular Backhaul Communication Fees (if applicable)

Customer Loyalty Program

 

Existing ReadCenter and CONNECT customers who make the transition to a BEACON AMA Mobile Solution or BEACON AMA Traditional Fixed Network Solution qualify for special Customer Loyalty Program pricing. As part of the Customer Loyalty Program, utilities receive a 50% discount off the published BEACON AMA Engagement Fee and reduced monthly hosting fees.

End of New Sales for ReadCenter® Analytics/Analytics Mobile 

 

With the release of the BEACON AMA Mobile Solution, Badger Meter is discontinuing new sales of ReadCenter Analytics and Analytics Mobile, except as approved by Marketing to support Touch or ORION gas endpoints.

 

 

Inventory Management Tool

 

Having appropriate endpoint asset information available in a utility’s BEACON AMA portfolio is necessary to ensure their ability to collect metering data for their endpoints. To aid in that process Badger Meter is providing the BEACON Inventory Management Tool software. Distributors will use this software to manage transfer of distributor endpoint inventory to end utility customers. Once trained, distributors will be allowed to take stocking inventory of ORION Cellular endpoints.

 

Training for office/warehouse personnel will be provided by Badger Meter at one of the upcoming December sales trainings. If unable to attend one of those sessions, please contact your SSM to schedule training.

 


Hardware Warranty

 

Effective December 1, 2015 all tablets, handhelds and legacy ORS mobile system hardware shipped will include a standard 36-month hardware warranty as part of the purchase with no extended maintenance eligibility. Extended maintenance agreements will be available for hardware shipped prior to December 1, 2015 for a maximum of four (4) additional years.

 

ORION Water Products Warranty and Hardware Maintenance Program documents have been revised to reflect this change.
