4 Benefits of Flow Measurement Solutions for Water Treatment & Distribution

From water consumption metering and influent and effluent water monitoring to chemical treatment dosing and municipal network load monitoring, our flow measurement solutions offer the highest accuracy and reliability needed to manage your water treatment operations.
Water Treatment Facility
Water treatment and distribution is an essential process, especially as communities consume greater quantities of water and the water shortage continues. These factors place greater emphasis on environmentally responsible water treatment and using reclaimed resources whenever possible.

From water consumption metering and influent and effluent water monitoring to chemical treatment dosing and municipal network load monitoring, our flow measurement solutions offer the highest accuracy and reliability needed to manage your water treatment operations. Leading benefits include:

No. 1: Improved Water Management

Water management products are powerful tools for enhancing sustainability efforts. They support responsible water treatment and aid facilities in leveraging reclaimed resources. With the right meters and a water management system in place—like our AquaCUE® Flow Measurement Manager solution for industrial facilities or BEACON® Software as a Service (SaaS) for municipal water plants—managers can monitor their operations to improve efficiencies and address faulty or aging equipment to minimize water waste. This can be done without extending access privileges to the SCADA processes controlling water and wastewater treatment.

Through these flow measurement solutions, facility managers can monitor meters connected via cellular-enabled endpoints. If meters are equipped with dual outputs, data can be simultaneously delivered to SCADA systems for process control use, allowing a single meter to provide data to both systems. Having access to this near real-time data increases visibility and supports water management programs by providing managers and stakeholders with the proactive intelligence they need to detect leaks, manage revenue, conserve water and collect data for compliance reporting. It also empowers users to incorporate other parameters, such as water quality monitoring.

Water management tools also monitor water and wastewater usage patterns and detect irregularities, which can be due to changes in demand, equipment that needs maintenance, operational errors or tampering in a SCADA system. Because water management products are not dependent upon SCADA systems to deliver their data, they provide an added layer of monitoring to existing operations to collect and deliver data about the health of water and wastewater processes.

No. 2: Low Cost of Ownership

Accurate flow meters don’t have to come with a high price tag. To help provide our customers with a low cost of ownership, we manufacture our meters in-house. For example, we control the entire supply chain process for our ModMAG® M2000 Electromagnetic flow meter—from design, engineering and manufacturing to testing and delivery. This eliminates OEMs completely to reduce cost and improve service for our customers for the life of the meter.

No. 3: Proven Accuracy

At Badger Meter, we understand that you cannot manage what you do not measure. Accuracy is of the utmost importance at every stage of the water treatment and distribution process. Whether you’re monitoring flow to adjust the delivery of coagulants and polymers or measuring final delivery at residences, consistently accurate flow measurements provide you with the insights needed to maintain an effective and efficient system. Our ModMAG® Electromagnetic meter line offers accuracies up to ±0.2% and our Dynasonics® Ultrasonic meter line offers accuracies up to ±0.5%. Both electromagnetic and ultrasonic technologies provide leading performance in water treatment and distribution applications.

No. 4: Long-Term Reliability

Every stage of the water treatment and distribution process requires consistency and long-term reliability. Our products are designed and manufactured to meet strict requirements that provide our customers with the performance they need. Because of this attention to detail, we’re known for our product longevity and dependability, which provides you with the confidence you need to maintain your water treatment operations long-term.

One common meter choice is our Dynasonics® TFX-5000 Ultrasonic flow meter. It features a clamp-on design and is quickly and easily installed without cutting or tapping the pipe. It also has no moving parts to wear over time, making it a long-term solution for most water treatment and distribution applications.
