Based on AWWA and EPA estimates, metering by our customers could save 5 billion gallons of water annually, equating to >11.5 million kilowatt hours saved each year due to a reduction in energy needed to heat, pump and treat that water. That is over 7,850 tons of CO2 avoided. Smart metering, with the added engagement tools and visibility to early leak detection, can supercharge that savings.
As part of its smart city initiative, the City of Columbia collaborated with Badger Meter to provide a solution that increases resiliency, enhances transparency and provides 400,000 residents with high quality water services. The smart water technologies deployed include BEACON Advanced Metering Analytics (AMA), ORION® Cellular LTE-M endpoints, Recordall® Disc Series meters and E-Series® Ultrasonic meters. The solution uses existing cellular networks and powerful analytics, resulting in real-time data collection to save water and detect leaks faster. It also gives water customers access to their consumption data from the consumer engagement app EyeOnWater.
Facility operators want to accurately track steam usage as part of a wider effort to improve HVAC heating resource management and energy conservation. Utilizing the Badger Meter Preso® Cone Differential Pressure (DP) flow meters, facility staff had an accurate and reliable flow measurement solution with reliable data to help make informed decisions about steam and energy allocation. This sustainable solutions allowed campus operators to recover the costs associated with decreased energy consumption and reduce CO2 emissions.
