very robust meter
the IOG meter is suited to be placed on the pressured or suction side.
A customer needed to batch spent oil from a tanker truck or an intermediate bulk container (IBC) into a storage tank or reactor to mix it with additives for oil treatment. After this treatment, the prepared oil would be batched into 10 liters canisters with a weigh feeder.
For the oil batching and measuring process Badger Meter offered our largest IOG oval gear meter – a 3” (DN80) IG aluminum meter with an ILR740 output connected to a F131 batching display.
The batching system consists of the F131 batch controller, the batching valve, the IOG flow meter the pump and the pump controller and hand valve.
1. First possible batch process
If oil should be supplied from the intermediate bulk container (IBC) to the storage tank, the F131 will be preset to 1000 litres. The hand valve 2 and 4 will be open. The start button on the F131 will be pressed and the F131 provides the open signal to the pneumatic valve (A) and a start signal to the pump controller. The batch starts and the IOG (B) sends one impulse per liter to the F131. If the F131 has counted 1000 pulses, it sends a stop signal to the pump controller and a close signal to the pneumatic valve.
2. Second possible batch process
The same batch process could be performed in the same manner as in the first batch process, but the oil will be pumped direct to the reactor (mixer). Hand valve 2 and 5 are open.
3. Third possible batch process
4. The same patch process could be performed in the same manner as the first batch process, the only difference is that the hand valve 1 and 5 will be open to batch oil from the storage tank to the reactor (mixer).
Later on the system was provided with further functionalities, a PLC was added, hand valve 4 and 5 were replaced by a pneumatic valve. Additional storage tanks and reactors (mixer) were added. The level control monitor was added to measure the filling level of the storage tank. A pressure sensor was added for emergency stop, to prevent overpressure in case the pump does not stop while the valve has closed. Heating elements at the reactor (mixer) and storage tanks were added to keep the oil viscosity low and flowing.
